Here are excerpts from pianist Richard Bennett's albums "RAGA & BLUES" and "RHAPSODY IN YAMAN", both released by Mystica Music in India. On "Raga & Blues", he plays three ragas that have blues connotations for western ears. Each raga starts with a meditative solo piano alap. Bennett is then joined by bass and tabla for jazz and blues-inspired songs composed by him in the same raga. "Rhapsody in Yaman" has a more melodic bent and an expanded group featuring bansuri flute maestro Steve Gorn.
This is modern music for the intellect, soul and body.
